The Danube Delta is a fairy tale land, rich in ornithological fauna having more than 300 species, such as the unique colonies of pelicans.
Parallel 45 goes through the Delta, having climatically significance associated with a territory of great diversity, being influenced by the Black Sea.
The reed plot swamp vegetation is predominant and it covers 78% of the total area. The vegetation is rich, thus we found reed, club rush, sedge and pygmy willow.
The Danube Delta fauna is of a great diversity, being known as the ‘birds’ paradise’. The most common species are: cormorant, pelican, mute swan, red and white sheld-duck, snowy heron, pygmy eagle etc. The law protects certain species which are declared monuments of nature, such as: the spoonbill, pelicans, the pygmy cormorant, the rabbit, the black-winged stilt, the turtle, the water snake etc.
The surface of the Delta is 4170 square Km (being the second in Europe after the delta of Volga River), of which 82 % lies on the territory of Romania and the rest of 18% in Ukraine.

Delta's climate is continental temperate with Pontic influences due to the geographic position and the presence of the Black Sea. In the autumn and spring there are strong storms because of the winds of North-East. The yearly medium temperature is of 11 degrees C ( -1C in January and 22C in July).
In the Danube Delta live over 110 species of fish and 75 species of fresh water fish. From the Delta we obtain 50% of the production of fresh water fish. The most common species are: the sevruga, the sturgeon, the sterlet, the sheat-fish, salmon etc. From the migrating fish we mention: the herring.
