Voronet Monastery is also called the‚ Sixtin Chapel of the Orient’ and it was built by Stephen the Great in 1488. It is recognized for the shining colors used in the Judgment Day drama, the only composition of its kind, without interruption or truncation.
It is located in the village with the same name, 36 km from Suceava and only 4 km from the center of Gura Humorului town.
Moldovita Monastery is famous for its monumental scene of Constantinople's siege on the walls of the church, made in strong shades of red, blue, yellow and brown. It was built in 1532 by Petru Rares. It is located at 15 km from Vama village, between Moldovita and Ciumarna springs.
In the pictorial assembly of the Humor Monastery is an illustration of the poem ‚Constantinople's fall’, which shows the Romanians feelings towards the Turkish. It is located at 5-6 km from Gura Humorului town, Suceava county and it was built by the great palatinus Oana at the beginning of the 15th century.
Sucevita Monastery has the largest number of paintings, although the western wall is white. The legend says that the painter fell off the scaffold and died, thus the wall remained unpainted. The most famous painting of the monastery is “Isaiah's Tree” on the Southern wall. The monastery is located in the village with the same name, on the valley of Sucevita spring, at a distance of 18 km South-West from Radauti town. It was built in the last decades of the 16th century. |
